Arequipa JOURNALIST JOURNALISM AWARD WON: SUCCESS STORIES "THE TALES FOR PERU NOT CHINA
MEET THE SUCCESS STORY OF A WORKER TO WIN Piura SELLING LIFE CEBICHE
With the income that generated the sale of seafood dishes at the market gate of Mancora, René pay the education of their children in two private universities and build your home.
Rene first fell in love 25 years ago in Talara, his homeland. Some years later she was widowed and left with her two young children. After several years of effort and not without a great deal of sacrifice, managed to open and operate a seafood restaurant in the center of their city. Their ceviche was the star dish.
"I could not leave me," says Rene trying to hide her well-deserved pride as shakes a napkin on the tray to keep the flies ceviche with a movement of seafaring.
But the kids grow and should continue to explore and Talara business "was, but there are many things in between that ultimately leave little for one and the house, (…) must be paid to girls who attend the light, water, gas, taxes of the municipality … uff! There are also things that make up and lots of others that come out every day and you have to pay. "
At this point, probably what most surprised the journalist was that René will strive to pay their taxes in a timely manner. Responsibility has nothing to do with money.
"There were months with gesture tells Rene to be resigned to borrow to pay the bills and worked every day from 5 am to 9 pm, and I no longer came to mind."
By then, their children were already large and Rene had turned to love and compromise. "But as I get my new commitment for me, I will give to my children," thought convinced. So, one day decided to sell the cebichería in Talara, which gave him, he went to Mancora. But, to avoid problems of extra costs, he bought a cart, dishes, cutlery and other utensils and some started to sell ceviche at the door number two market in this small fishing village.
BIG ASPIRATIONS
Today, in his little truck to the doors of the supply center offers three types of ceviche: from nice to 3.00 soles to 2.50 soles mackerel and carajito (a delicious fish common in the area) to 2.
by Tracy O under CC-SA 00 soles, and sells chicha and a stiff drink our palate Lima could not process at 0.50 cents each glass.
"My day starts the same as when the restaurant was in Talara, at five o'clock, when I have to buy fish and other things to prepare the ceviche, and ends at about four … yes, at that time and I'm going home (…) on a good day, hence sack about 300 suns, "he says.
As unlikely as it may seem, these cebiches of 2.50 soles allow Rene support her two children in Lima and pay them for careers in private universities, and build-little by little, is true, their own home in Piura resort. Rene insists that his "new commitment" can not take care of their children, so she will care for them at least "until end of study, because this is very hard and sacrifice much … and I'm a little tired" .
Should be. For 18 years he worked alone, without anyone's help. First restaurant in Talara, now in the truck in Mancora. Gun and orders the small space, loading his things, prepare your meal, serve, clean, comes … does it all. Their ceviche, as we saw, are a success that should make more progress to meet the demands of their guests. "Not long," he says, and we smile for the first time.
NO WORK STUDY
Isaak works Monday through Saturday from 11 am until four in the afternoon 'pulling' the public from the still-under construction-boulevard linking the town of Mancora beach in Punta Ballenas. "Ceviche fish to 10.00 soles and large beer heladita to 5.00 soles".
He is 14 and has not finished school, he was in ninth grade. Arrived a year of Iquitos, where he was born and where appropriate also his mother (daughter of Brazilian immigrants). "Some relatives of my mother told him that here was work, so we came here for a couple of years," he explains as he picks up an umbrella. Isaak and his mother arrived to Mancora in mid-2009.
"And when you return to school?" I ask. "I do not know, work is better and more useful" answers by first intention. Then he thinks better of it and tell me that is not what you do for the rest of his days, that it should finish school and that too could do it in Mancora. At such times one understands how important education is and how essential is that guys like Isaak can study in any city in Peru while allowing a determining their future life chances. Terrible thing.
Sitting, writing about a new book by the sea, with a cold beer and a glorious sun by peers, it seems that life has never been nor can be harsh in any way. But never is. If you like this post then learn more at www.renegaderecessionmademillionaire.com
